The family of a Clay County teen who died doing something he loved is mourning his tragic death and remembering his life.
Robbie Bowman, 15, died Tuesday night after being hit by a car while he was riding his dirt bike in Clay Clay.
"Just look down on us and see how much we care about you and I'm going to miss you," his uncle Gilbert Malcom said. He fought back emotions remembering the good times he spent with his young nephew.
"The way he used to pick on us and try to get our attention so we would chase him around and wrestle around with him. He just loved attention and I loved that about him," he said.
On Tuesday, Bowman was riding his dirt bike on Nebo School Road in Clay County when he pulled out onto Route 16.
"When he did, the car collided into him and he died on impact," Malcom said.
State police said the driver of the car wasn't at fault, and was not able to see Bowman turning onto the road. Bowman was wearing a helmet, but they say it was not fastened properly.
"We know he's in a better place," his aunt said.
"I mean, he was an innocent, typical 15 year-old child, he made a mistake and turned onto a road when he was not supposed to and he was wearing his helmet and it just was not enough," Malcom said.
Family members are working to give the Clay Middle School student a proper funeral, but are asking the community for support. They said they will miss his spontaneous and fun-loving spirit. They described him as a country boy who loved God, his family and the outdoors.
"Just going to be a hard, hard loss," his uncle said.
To help with Bowman's funeral expenses, donations can be made to:
