How honest are West Virginians?
A beverage company is putting you to the test, Wednesday, and you probably didn't even know it.
Honest Tea placed a pop-up kiosk in front of the public library in Charleston. They're selling cold drinks for a dollar but there's no one there to take your money, just a box noting the honor system.
"Well apparently someone is trying to send us a message," said Kelly Pennington, Charleston. "It's Honest Tea for a reason so a dollar's not going to kill us right?"
Honest Tea is trying to find out just how honest we are and this is how they're doing it. They've been setting up these kiosks is a city in every state, selling drinks for a dollar. They're looking to see who pays and who doesn't.
"We've had some cities that were not so honest," said Natasha Wiscomb, Honest Tea. "We've had some interesting stories, like in Philadelphia, we had someone pay with a mayo packet because they were right by Pat and Ginos, so they were like, 'hey this is great let me pay with my mayo packet.' But that still counts as a steal ."
So far, West Virginians are pretty honest and are paying up.
"I hope there' s alot of honest people out there that will take advantage of this opportunity to do the right thing," said Amy Arey, Charleston.
"There's always some people that are going to take advantage of that but not us," Pennington said.
"We've seen a couple people like really digging through their wallets and actually leaving and coming back with change," Wiscomb said. "So it's been nice to see people really making an honest effort to pay."
Honest Tea will release all of their data on July 23 on their website to see which state and it's citizens are the most honest. Just log onto http://thenationalhonestyindex.com/
