A Scott Depot man was arrested after deputies said he struck a man several times and stole his Valium pills because he was upset the victim tried to sell him fake marijuana.
Joey Lee Ashworth, 22, was charged with armed robbery Monday in connection with an incident that happened on Rocky Lane in Cross Lanes, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
The complaint said a Kanawha County sheriff’s deputy was sent to a residence to investigate a burglary. The deputy said he spoke with the victim, Zackary Santee, who said a man named “Joey” had arranged to buy marijuana and that Santee served as the middle man. Santee told the officer that the marijuana was grass clippings and that upset “Joey,” the complaint said.
A short time later, the victim told the officer, several white males, including Joey, entered the home and Joey struck him several times and stole several of his Valium pills that were on a coffee table. “Joey” was identified as Joey Ashworth based upon his description and a photograph on Facebook, the complaint said.
The complaint said Ashworth was located at his residence on Hendrick Road, and he gave a statement and acknowledged that he struck Santee three or four times and took his Valium because Santee sold him fake marijuana.
Ashworth was lodged in the South Central Regional Jail.
