A man was beaten Saturday on Charleston’s West Side and taken to the hospital.
Police said the beating happened around 1 p.m. along Iowa Street. They said Joshua Blanchett, 22, beat Marvin Gillespie so badly with brass knuckles above his right eye that he was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition..
Police said Blanchett was a fugitive from justice and said he doesn't even know the man he's accused of beating.
Blanchett had to be video arraigned, because police didn't feel he was safe enough to go before a judge, due to what they said was erratic behavior after his arrest earlier.
Gillispie was treated at Charleston Area Medical Center Saturday evening. He has since been transferred to a hospital in Morgantown. Blanchett was taken to the South Central Regional Jail and was being held on a $50,000 cash bond.
His court date is set for July 18.
