Logan , Logan County , West Virginia
Logan County faced a scary situation Thursday evening as parts of a mountainside came crashing into a truck.
Dozens of motorists were stuck in traffic on Route 10, after rocks came tumbling down the hillside, hitting a truck and covering the road.
David Quintero drives the road through Logan every week, making deliveries to a local Family Dollar, but Thursday, he was forced to wait several hours as emergency crews cleaned up the rockslide.
"The traffic got crazy, so I had to pull over to the side," Quintero said.
Route 10 near Lyburn Mountain in was closed after one truck was hit by falling rocks.
The road in the area is currently under construction and it is an active blasting zone.
Police said after one blast early Thursday evening, rocks came tumbling down the hillside and into a truck, injuring a father and son.
"It's a roadway that's definitely needed, what's currently being built,” Trooper James Harris, of West Virginia State Police, said. “But at the same time, we have to do that in the manner that is safe for all people that are traveling through this area."
While crews waited for equipment to secure the mountainside, the line of waiting motorists grew.
While the rockslide was a bit of an inconvenience, Quintero said he's just glad it wasn't worse.
"Well, I hope it gets moving,” he said. “It's causing us a delay, and now it's causing me not to be at home for the weekend."
Police said the father and son who were injured were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and Route 10 in the area remained closed.
A large rock rolled onto a truck Thursday along the old part of Route 10 in Logan County.
It was unclear whether there were any injuries in the incident that occurred on Lyburn Mountain near where crews were working on a new part of the roadway.
Crews were trying to reroute traffic.
Eyewitness News has a crew headed to the scene.
