People from across the nation are in Charleston this week to trade and sell memorabilia featuring a very popular peanut.
The Peanut Pals are going nuts about Mr. Peanut and collectible items featuring the unofficial Planters icon. Ninety-nine of the 500 peanut Pal members are in the capital city for the four-day convention, which is taking place at the Marriott Town Center Hotel.
The 34th annual convention features an auction, banquet and swap meet. Friday's swap meet was open to the public. Peanut lovers could purchase and trade Mr. Peanut collectibles and meet the popular icon.
This is the first year West Virginia hosted the event.
Fans of the dapper Mr. Peanut and his many accessories are gathering in West Virginia for a convention.
The club's 34th annual convention runs through Saturday in downtown Charleston. It is expected to attract nearly 100 Peanut Pals -- folks who are obsessed with Planters Peanuts memorabilia.
The Charleston Daily Mail said members are interested in all forms of Planters items, but Mr. Peanut is the primary attraction. He is the formally attired peanut in the top hat, cane, spats and monocle.
A statue of the snappily attired snack food can be found in downtown Suffolk, Va., the state's prime peanut growing area.
