North Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia
The owners of a North Charleston business were arrested following a search warrant execution sparked by a early morning shooting.
Emma Laughlin and Rodney Armstrong are charged with illegally selling alcohol, a misdemeanor.
They are the owners of Miss Sylvia's Sandwich Shop and Pool Tables on West Washington Street in North Charleston.
The business has only been open several months, but neighbors say it's been a nuisance since day one.
A business license still hangs in the window, but a liquor license doesn't. Police say that didn't stop them from opening up as an after hours bootleg bar.
"The neighbors have been very afraid based on some of the incidents that take place there with disturbances and shots fired, and now we have someone that's actually been shot," said Lt. Steve Cooper.
Early Sunday morning, police say Terrence Wilson, 24, of Detroit was shot as he was leaving the establishment. The shooting gave police enough evidence for a search warrant. They say they discovered large amounts of alcohol, but barely any food.
"All we could really locate were some old frozen items and a few buns," said Cooper.
Police say Laughlin and Armstrong have been on their radar since a quadruple shooting at their Madison Street home in March 2011 during a large party.
"A hail of bullets just tore through the house. There were several people shot, including one lady who was shot in the head," Cooper said.
Police suspected they were selling alcohol from their home then, but no charges were filed.
ABCA officials say this weekend's incident would negatively affect their application for a liquor license in the future, if they were to ever apply for one.
