An early hour drive-by shooting shook up a West Side neighborhood in Charleston Sunday.
Early morning gunfire in front of Miss Sylvia's Sandwich Shop and Pool Tables had police investigating for several hours. Neighbors who didn't want to be identified were on edge.
“I woke up at 5 a.m. and heard four shots,” one said. “Then, 30 minutes later, six shots after that.”
Police said Terrence Wilson, 24, walked into Saint Francis Hospital at about 6:30 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the arm.
He told police the shooting happened as he held the door open for a woman at Miss Sylvia's on Washington Street West.
Police said a car drove up beside him and fired around four to six shots, then drove off. The suspect is still on the loose. It is still unclear why the shooter opened fire.
Lt. Steve Cooper with Charleston Police said there is a lot of questionable activity outside of Miss Sylvia’s. The business does not have a liquor license, and police said they are investigating why the shop was open all night with a lot of people inside and liquor bottles out back.
“This particular spot has attracted a crowd that's now escalating into violence,” Cooper said. “We're investigating that as we speak, investigating the premises and continuing to interview the victim.”
Neighbors said they just want that corner to shape up and be a lot safer.
As of right now, police do not have a description of the suspect, but anyone with information is asked to call 911.
