Head Start programs have been hurt by sequester cuts, but two of those programs in Monroe and Nicholas counties are getting some help with nearly $1.5 million in new federal funding.
U.S. Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin and U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall announced the funding Friday.
The Nicholas Community Action Partnership in Summersville is set to get more than $781,000, while the Monroe County Board of Education in Union will get around $641,000.
Head Start is a national preschool program for low-income children.
It also offers eligible children and their families access to health, nutrition, education, and social services.
