We have an update an accident just outside of Dunbar that sent three people to the hospital.
It happened around 6:30pm on Washington Street West, near the DHHR building.
Deputies say a truck and a sports utility vehicle crashed head-on. The driver of the sports utility vehicle and two people in the truck all had to be cut out of the vehicle.
Paramedics say the driver of the SUV suffered severe injuries.
Deputies are trying to determine if the weather played a role in the accident.
Both lanes of Washington Street West were closed in the area for more than an hour while crews cleared the scene.
Also around 6:45 p.m., as the heavy rain was moving through the area, two major accidents on I-64 backed up traffic for miles in the westbound lanes.
The first wreck happened near the Cross Lanes Exit.
Dispatchers say five vehicles were involved, and several people had to be taken to the hospital.
Moments later, near the Nitro Exit, four vehicles wrecked. No word on the conditions of those victims.
