From a First Tee luncheon to a clinic featuring pros and trick shot artists, budding golfers were the center of attention at the Greenbrier Classic's Youth Day.
From the tournament's beginning it has focused on the future of the game.
"There's a lot of instances of honor in this game that's different from other games that we play and we participate in and we coach," Jim Justice, owner of the Greenbrier said. "So it's a special day for those kids and I'm sure they're benefiting from this beyond that they can possibly believe today."
"We've been doing this for four years and it grows every year," Monte Ortel, the tournament director said. "So that's a great sign of the growth o the game here specifically in the state of West Virginia.
In the spirit of the day, World Golf Hall of Fame member Nick Faldo unveiled a major announcement. His Faldo series tour in Asia and Europe allows 7000 young golfers a chance to compete internationally. And now, it's coming to America with a big October tournament at The Greenbrier.
"The Faldo series final, our grand final, will be coming here to the Greenbrier in October," Faldo said. "What we do is we bring all of our winners from Europe over, so about 60 or so kids will come from Europe and all of our winners from Asia who won earlier in March."
Faldo added the tournament will invite several of America's top young boy and girl golfers to participate. Faldo says he's hopeful his series will grow to eventually include youth golfers from three continents battling in team and individual competitions.
