The University of Charleston has unveiled a new health science simulation lab.
University President Ed Welch said Friday the lab will help students practice real-world procedures. It was established in Riggleman Hall in part with a $1.5 million donation from the estate of the late Kanawha County Circuit Judge Robert Smith.
The lab includes mannequins that simulate sweating and bleeding and can be programmed with a variety of ailments and conditions.
Smith's estate donated $250,000 to the lab and $500,000 to find nursing scholarships. The other half of the $1.5 million will help establish an English as a Second Language program at the university.
