The city of Charleston has added new police officers to its force.
Three new officers were sworn in by Mayor Danny Jones on Friday morning at City Hall.
Family, friends and fellow police officers came out to show support and take pictures as Derrick Barnette, Nicholas Castleman and Erick Roberts were sworn in to their new jobs. Castleman said Friday ceremony has been a long-time coming.
“It's just a very humbling thing to be a part of the Charleston Police Department,” Castleman said.
Charleston Police Chief Brent Webster said not everyone who wants to join the force makes it. “We cut a lot of people, but these three passed everything and we feel they're very qualified,” Webster.
The officers will begin the 154th basis class at the West Virginia State Police Academy on Monday.
Training is expected to last six weeks.
