State leaders focused on higher education at the West Virginia capitol Thursday, as dozens gathered for higher education day.
The event takes place each year and is a chance to recognize West Virginia's educational institutions and provide information to potential students, the general public and policymakers. Several colleges and universities came out, and Governor Earl Ray Tomblin presented a proclamation declaring March 21 as Higher Education Day.
“We are very fortunate in West Virginia to have a large array of careers that you can go into in our state,” Tomblin said. “You find just about any career offered, and the training will be offered at one of our fine institutions of higher learning.”
Displays on planning, applying and paying for education and training beyond high school were also set up throughout the capitol for potential students to check out
