West Virginia's House of Delegates is asking Congress to take the issue of gun control off the table.
Proposals were made in the wake of various mass shootings to put stricter restrictions on gun laws.
A resolution was adopted Thursday. Backers said the millions of law-abiding, gun-toting citizens should not be punished.
The resolution instead focuses on punishment for the criminals.
As the gun control debate continues, West Virginia lawmakers seem primarily pro-gun this session. Other states are considering implementing a ban on assault weapons.
