Deputies said a Fayette County man was arrested on several charges after he allegedly tried to stop firefighters from reaching his home, urging them to “let it burn.”
Ralph Allen Bostick, 50, of Victor was charged with two counts of obstructing a firefighter, defrauding a public utility and public intoxication, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
When firefighters responded about 6 p.m. Wednesday to a blaze reported on Saturday Road in Victor, a man identified as Bostick was standing in the middle of the road and attempting to stop firefighters from reaching the scene, the release said.
Deputies said when they arrived, Bostick was visibly intoxicated and tried to walk away from the scene. The release said an examination of the residence found that Appalachian Electric Power had disconnected the electrical service to the residence and someone had bypassed the disconnection and reconnected the power.
Bostick was arrested and transported to the Southern Regional Jail pending his arraignment in Fayette County Magistrate Court.
