An East Bank woman was arrested Thursday and taken to South Central Regional Jail in Kanawha County following a hit-and-run incident in Chelyan.

Leslie A. Dent, 29, is accused of trying to run over her boyfriend with his own vehicle.

In a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, Deputy C.D. Lyons said he responded to a hit-and-run incident at the Go-Mart in Chelyan. Lyons said the victim, Ronnie Thomas, told him Dent -- who is his girlfriend -- jumped in his vehicle and tried to take off. Thomas also told the deputy Dent ran him over with the vehicle when he tried to stop her, the complaint said.

Lyons said he saw a large scrape on Thomas' left hand side, on his lower back and buttocks. Thomas' injuries didn't require medical attention.

The deputy said he tried to locate the vehicle but had no success, the complaint said. When he returned to the scene, Lyons said police at Chesapeake Police Chief J. Ice brought Dent back to the scene.

Dent has nine unpaid driving citations. She was charged with driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident and domestic violence. Kanawha Magistrate Kim Aaron ordered Dent be held in jail on a $5,000 cash-only bond. The mother of four has to meet with a family court judge for unpaid child support. Her children range in age from 2 months to 7 years old.

Dent is currently unemployed. This is her fourth arrest.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said traffic charges were pending against a woman Thursday morning following a hit and run investigation in Chelyan.

Cpl. Brian Humphreys, spokesman for the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said traffic charges are pending against Leslie Dent. Deputies responded Thursday morning to a report of a male being struck by a vehicle at the Go-Mart in Chelyan.

A Metro 911 dispatcher said the male hit by a vehicle was sitting up on the pavement after the accident and then walked away from the scene. Further information about the male and his condition was unavailable.

Humphreys said Dent was arrested on a failure to pay child support charge. He said she was scheduled to be arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
