There's a new scam looking to turn telephone customers into victims.
Some Frontier Communications customers in West Virginia have been contacted by people -- within the last two weeks-- claiming to represent the phone company.
Dana Waldo, senior vice president and general manager, said the scam artists have been successful in trying to obtain personal information out of some of the company's customers. The way scam artists do it is by persuading people to change their service, Waldo said.
The senior vice president said customers should be on the alert for solicitation and should ask key questions before giving up valuable information over the phone.
"Some of our customers are actually asking the scammers to identify who they are, get a phone number for them to call them back and that actually stops many scammers right there," Waldo said.
There's no word on who is behind the scam.
