Felony sex charges against a former Mercer County teacher and coach are heading to a grand jury. The defendant, Jonathan Kirk of Walton, 34, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday in Mercer County Magistrate Court. The Bluefield Daily Telegraph said the case will be heard by grand jurors in June. Kirk faces more than a dozen sex charges involving students at PikeView High School. The charges include the use of minors in filming sexually explicit conduct and sexual abuse by a parent or custodian. Kirk is being held on $100,000 cash bond. A former PikeView High School coach and teacher faces more than a dozen sex charges involving students. Media outlets report that Jonathan Kirk, 34, of Walton was arraigned Monday in Mercer County Magistrate Court. He's charged with using obscene matter with intent to seduce a minor; use of minors in filming sexually explicit conduct; distribution and display to minors of obscene matter; sexual abuse by a parent or custodian; and soliciting a minor via computer. State Police Sgt. M.D. Clemons said the charges involve seven female students ages 16 to 18. Kirk was a physical education teacher and assistant baseball and football coach.
