The state high school basketball tournament has wrapped up, but not before making a big economic impact on the region.
Thousands of people were in the capitol city over several days for the boys and girls basketball tournaments at the Charleston Civic Center.
Businesses said they stayed busy throughout the tournament.
“We definitely see an increase in business any time there’s an event at the civic center,” Pies and Pints Manager Leslie Beavers said. “The concerts are probably our biggest. We always plan for a big rush before those, so it definitely helps."
The mayor of Charleston has proposed a major $60 million renovation to the civic center. A half-cent sales tax increase would fund the project.
