In Putnam County, after a long battle, a busy fire station is transitioning from all volunteers to a partially-paid staff.
The sign won't be changed at the Teays Valley Volunteer Fire Department, but the station is adding 18 part-time firefighters, who will be paid to cover the growing area.
The paid members, who have been on the payroll since March 9, are in addition to the existing volunteers.
