An Oceana man has been jailed, and is accused of attacking his girlfriend with an ax during an argument.
The incident was alleged to have taken place at Shorts Mobile Home Park at about 12:30 a.m. Friday.
According to our sister station WOAY, Tracy Stewart, 46, admitted that he hit Lenora Ellis, 50, several times in the head with an ax, and once in the arm. He allegedly told police he acted in self-defense.
Police found Ellis unresponsive in the trailer. She was flown to CAMC where she is listed in critical condition.
Although it was a scary situation, some in the community said they saw it coming.
“They did a lot of drinking and arguing going on,” neighbor Lucille Dotson said. “It really wasn't a surprise to me."
Stewart is charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding. He is currently in the Southern Regional Jail on $50,000 bond.
Officials said more charges from the incident are pending.
