U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin made a special stop Friday to spread some pre-St. Patrick's Day cheer, visiting the Hansford Senior Center in St. Albans.
Everyone was dressed in green and took part in various St Patrick's Day activities.
The senator also got to meet with veteran Walt Filipek, a U.S.Marine from World War II who Manchin helped to get his Bronze Star and Purple Heart after the honors had been lost in the bureaucracy.
“It's just a great atmosphere at the Hansford Center,” Manchin said. “It’s just an energetic place. You feel good when you come here. The people are always doing something. They're very positive. Their attitudes are just really pure West Virginia.”
Dozens of seniors took part in Friday's events and said they were honored that the senator took time to come out and visit with them.
