While negotiations continue over the Governor Earl Ray Tomblin's education reform bill, teachers' unions are taking aim at a new hire by the state board of education.
The board has given Donna Peduto the position as its first-ever director of operations, at a salary of $104,000 per year.
The move comes in the wake of an audit which criticized the school system, saying it was top-heavy with too many administrators.
The head of West Virginia's American Federation of Teachers said it makes no sense to hire Peduto while discussing radical overhauls of the state's education system.
