The suspect in a Winifrede murder from 2012 was sentenced to 20 years in prison when he appeared in a Kanawha County courtroom Tuesday.
John Edward Hudson, 38, of Ashford pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in December 2012.
Detectives said Hudson admitted to shooting and killing Michelle Gillispie inside a home on Shorty Road in Winifrede in late January.
Hudson told police it was an accident, but later confessed to the crime. Police said Gillespie died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Hudson was driving Gillispie's vehicle following the crime and turned himself into police.
The case was bound over to a grand jury earlier this year.
