Cleanup efforts were under way Tuesday morning after a coal truck overturned in Kanawha County.
The accident happened at 10049 East DuPont Ave. near the London Locks, a dispatcher said. The accident was reported about 9:40 a.m.
Eyewitness News has learned the driver of the truck attempted to turn into the London Post Office, but he could not stop. The truck then came to a stop on its side in the creek, with its load spilling onto the train tracks. The driver of the coal truck was taken to an area hospital to be checked out.
Dispatchers said both east and westbound traffic in the area was closed while crews cleared the scene. One lane had reopened at 10:30 a.m., but a dispatcher was not certain whether it was the eastbound or westbound lane. Railroad traffic also was being halted because coal spilled on the tracks, dispatchers said.
Kanawha County deputies and firefighters with the Glasgow and Montgomery fire departments responded to the scene.
