The National Weather Service is advising residents in more than 20 counties to not burn anything outdoors Monday due to the risk of forest fires.
About 25 forest fires were reported in the coalfields over the weekend, the Division of Forestry said.
The weather service said above normal temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds will increase the threat of fires spreading.
The advisory is for Jackson, Wood, Pleasants, Tyler, Lincoln, Putnam, Kanawha, Roane, Wirt, Calhoun, Ritchie, Doddridge, Boone, Clay, Braxton, Gilmer, Lewis, Harrison, Taylor, Upshur and Barbour counties.
West Virginia's spring forest fires season began March 1 and continues through May 31. Outdoor burning is prohibited between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. to prevent forest fires.
Commercial burning is allowed in the daytime with a $125 fee for each site issued by the Division of Forestry.
