Investigators are looking into a driver's report that his brakes failed before his water tanker collided with a car and killed two Clarksburg children.
Police Chief Marshall Goff tells media outlets the victims' mother is 49-year-old Lucretia Mazzei.
Her 7 and 8-year-old sons attended Adamston Elementary. Harrison County sent counselors there and to other schools Monday to help children cope.
The boys died in a weekend crash with a T&S Trucking tanker loaded with brine water from a gas drilling operation. It happened on a U.S. Route 50 off-ramp.
The truck driver hasn't been identified or charged yet.
Goff said he told police his brakes didn't work properly, but a preliminary investigation suggests they weren't an issue.
T&S Trucking is based in Mineral Wells. The company didn't immediately return messages.
AP contributed to this report.
An accident in Clarksburg left two young children dead Saturday night.
Police said a water truck rolled over onto the vehicle the children were in and killed them. The accident took place at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and West Pike Street. Investigators said the truck lost control of its breaks, causing the crash. The children were 7 and 8 years old.
The truck driver and woman driving the vehicle were taken to the hospital, but are expected to be OK.
