A Mason County community came together Saturday to rally around a high school student seriously injured in a car accident.
A candlelight vigil was held to raise money for the family of Paul Holley, a sophomore at Hannan High School who nearly lost his life in a car accident two weeks ago while on his way home from basketball practice.
At a candlelight vigil, many tears were shed, and prayers said for Holley. He has a broken neck, which paralyzed him from the chest down, and is also fighting pneumonia.
For Charles Mayes, one of Holley's best friends, the past couple of weeks have been unimaginable.
"We've been through it all,” Mayes said. “This is horrible, should never happen to anyone."
His friends are coming together and raising money to help cover medical costs for special treatment at a hospital in Chicago.
"It means a lot, that all these people care," said Holley’s grandmother, Joyce Fetty. "It helps keep us strong."
