A group of Ohio farmers and agriculture leaders from the state spent the past week in Washington meeting with lawmakers in Congress.
At the top of the group's list is getting a farm bill passed after Congress failed to move it through last year.
Ohio Farm Bureau spokesman Joe Cornely said a permanent farm bill is needed so that operators will be able to make future plans and know what kind of crop insurance will be available down the road.
The Lima News reported that House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio told the group that his goal is to get a farm bill done this year.
Other topics that came up during the talks with lawmakers included immigration reform and water quality regulations.
