South Charleston is using a $6,300 state grant to help pay for seats and other furnishings for the historic LaBelle Theater.
West Virginia officials presented local leaders with a check for the state grant this week.
The Charleston Daily Mail reported that the LaBelle Theater recently underwent a $60,000 renovation. The renovation included the installation of 300 almost-new seats, fresh paint, new tile flooring and carpeting, light fixtures, a wide screen for movies and new sound equipment.
The original theater was built in 1938. It continued to be a movie house but was renamed Cinema South in the 1960s until it closed in 1979. Various church congregations have met inside the building over the years.
The city bought the building in 2002.
