A South Charleston man faces multiple charges after police said he fled from officers investigating a larceny.
Marcus Anontio Vest, 31, was charged Wednesday with burglary, petit larceny, obstructing an officer, fleeing from an officer and making false statements to an officer, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
South Charleston police said they responded to 1824 Spring Drive for a larceny complaint where the suspect was still on the scene. Police said Vest fled after he was approached and was arrested after a foot chase. The complaint said Vest gave a statement to police about a number of incidents.
Police said Vest stole a class ring Feb. 9 from 1824 Spring Drive and sold the ring at a pawn shop. On March 5, he allegedly entered a residence at 1826 Spring Drive through a back window and took a precious metal coin and a large bag of change, and later pawned the precious metal, the complaint said. He also is accused of re-entering the residence at 1826 Spring Drive on another date and taking several more precious metals.
South Charleston police said they arrested a man after a foot chase that started after neighbors pointed him out as a suspect in a larceny.
The pursuit began about 4 p.m. Wednesday when police said they responded to a report of a larceny in progress in the 800 block of Spring Drive. When they arrived, officers said, neighbors pointed to a suspect and he took off. Police said they caught the suspect behind a home in Charleston, and he had old coins, jewelry and credit cards in his possession.
Police said the suspect, whose name has not been released yet, was being processed at police headquarters. It was unclear what charges he would face.
