A group of people spent part of Tuesday rallying for equal rights. Fairness West Virginia met in the lower Rotunda of the state Capitol to raise awareness of the employment and housing non-discrimination act.
The proposal extends the West Virginia Human Rights Act to include sexual orientation.
The bill would protect those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender from being fired or evicted because of their sexual preference.
"We want West Virginia to move forward. We want a state you know that says we're on the side of business," said Justin Murdoch, a Fairness West Virginia board member. "Ninety-six percent of businesses already support non-discrimination of their own policies."
There are about 57,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals living in the Mountain State.
