From patient to prison cell, a police chase ends in an arrest.

It started at Chesapeake Medical Center in Kanawha City on Monday.

Police say Mark Kennedy, of Harts, became irate and was told to leave.

A Charleston police officer came to the scene and police say Kennedy tried to run her over and then drove off. He led police on a chase down Interstate 64.

After being pulled over and put in the back of a cruiser, Kennedy lashed out, screaming and kicking the window from inside the car. Troopers had to subdue Kennedy.

"Scary, scary situation for us," explains Jaime Shrewsbury, a receptionist at the doctor's office.

Shrewsbury and another witness, Bobbie Holstein, says Kennedy was told he was no longer going to be a patient there. That's when they say he lost control, allegedly screaming and cursing in patient's faces, beating on the doors, and shoving a female patient.

"We've seen this some with him, but not to this extent. He was really, really, very, very angry. We were kind of afraid that he did have a gun or any type of weapon in general and he was going to try to use it," says Holstein.

Patrolman K. Bass responded to scene, and was forced to draw her weapon on Kennedy. That's when he attempted to run her over with his truck as he was fleeing, according to a criminal complaint.

"That's when I became terrified because you never know what anyone could do," said Shrewsbury.

Kennedy led police on a chase down I-64 that ended on the bridge near the Dunbar exit.

Police say he had an 18 inch wooden club tucked in the back of his pants. They say they also found marijuana and knives in his truck.

"What he wanted, he wanted it now, and he didn't like it because he didn't get it," says Shrewsbury.

Kennedy is being held on a $75,000 cash or surety bond.
