Snow expected to hit the Charleston area is forecast to fall between the hours of 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday, Eyewitness News Meteorologist Doug Harlow said. About 1 to 3 inches is expected. The Beckley area should get 4 inches to 5 inches. Meanwhile, the mountains are expected to receive the heaviest snowfall totals. Areas in the Eastern Panhandle could get up to 14 inches. Snow is expected to fall Tuesday night into Wednesday. A storm heading for West Virginia could dump more than a foot of heavy, wet snow in eastern counties. The National Weather Service says rain will turn to snow Tuesday night. The snow is expected to continue into Wednesday morning. Eyewitness News Meteorologist Doug Harlow said the Charleston area is expected to get 1 to 3 inches of snow. Elsewhere in the state, The Associated Press reported that the expected snowfall ranges from 5 to 9 inches in Greenbrier County to up to 14 inches in the Eastern Panhandle and Preston and Tucker counties. Winter storm warnings are in effect for these areas from Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning. Pocahontas and Randolph counties also are under winter storm warnings. Eyewitness News Meteorologist Doug Harlow said heavy wet snow is possible for a number of areas Tuesday night into Wednesday. In the Charleston area and points west, north and south, 1 inch to 3 inches of snow is possible. Meanwhile, a winter storm watch is in effect from Nicholas County east. Route 19 and east could receive 3 inches to 6 inches of snow, while east of that area, counties bordering Virginia could get hit with 6 inches to 12 inches of snow.
