Police Stop Suspect Who Allegedly Tried To Run Over Officer, Fled From Police

Mark L. Kennedy, 49, of Harts was taken into custody Monday after a pursuit that went from Charleston and ended on the Interstate 64 Bridge between South Charleston and Dunbar.
Police traffic reports indicated the chase ensued after someone tried to back over a female officer. A deputy sheriff got behind the suspect’s vehicle, and a state trooper was on the shoulder of the interstate, getting ready to throw out stop sticks. The man, whose name has not been released, pulled over and was then taken into custody.
The suspect had to be subdued by officers again at some point after he was taken into custody because he began kicking and moving around.
Eyewitness News has learned that officers found marijuana in the vehicle, a large truck.
The suspect was being booked at State Police headquarters in Charleston. It was unclear what charges he would face.
State Police have stopped a suspect who allegedly tried to run over a Charleston police officer and then led police on a high speed chase.
The incident started in Charleston Monday morning and then proceeded on Interstate 64 west toward Huntington.
The suspect was stopped on the Interstate 64 Bridge.
