The Boyd County Sheriff's Department said they arrested three people after neighbors allegedly caught the suspects in the act of burglary.
Sharon F. Kitchen, 18, William Bailey, 19, of Ashland, and Zachary Stevens, 20 of Flatwoods were arrested on Saturday and charged with burglary. Deputies said a neighbor saw three people around the victim's home at about 1:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of State Route 5 in Ashland, according to a news release from the sheriff's department. The neighbor called the victim, who called 911.
Another neighbor, Rick Porter, reportedly heard noises and confronted the suspects with a handgun, deputies said. Two suspects were held at gunpoint until deputies arrived, while a third suspect fled on foot. The third suspect, Bailey, turned himself in to authorities about an hour later, deputies said.
Porter said, "I shouted at them and told them I had a gun and wasn't afraid to use it. I said if you run I'll shoot you."
Glenna Knoblaugh's home was the target. She says she's been burglarized before and has cameras, lights and a security system in place. "I'm the one in jail because of the way they make me feel. I have to turn all the lights on and lock up. It's really sad." She says her neighbors watching out for their community should send a strong message. "Don't come out here because I got good neighbors and they're on alert. I won't put up with it."
