Seven firefighters who paid the ultimate price were scheduled to be honored Monday.
The Charleston Fire Department was conducting a ceremony to remember the firefighters who died during the 1949 Woolworth fire, according to a news release from the Charleston Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau.
Firefighters were placing a wreath at the site in their honor at 10 a.m. at 205 Capitol St.
The names of the fallen firefighters are: George Alexander Coates, 28; James Paul "Jiggs" Little, 26; Richard Ellsworth McCormick, 34; Frank Norton Miller, 31; Emory Clyde Pauley, 51; Thomas Franklin Sharp, 50; and Fred Clarence Summers, 27.
