A Charleston man is in hot water after police said he accidentally shot himself with a gun he had illegally.
The incident allegedly took place in the 1100 block of Garvin Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police said Roosevelt Holton told police he was trying to teach his girlfriend how to safely handle a gun, when it accidentally went off, hitting him in the leg.
Holton was taken to the hospital with but is expected to be okay. Police said Holton was not supposed to have a gun because of an active domestic violence protection order.
As soon as Holton is released from the hospital, a complaint will be filed against him.
