Investigators have identified the victim killed in a Boone County fire as 18-year-old Rocky Steele. Steele was home with his girlfriend and his father at the time of the fire. Investigators said the father made it out safely, and the girlfriend was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Flames turned deadly in Boone County early Sunday killing a teenager and sending another to the hospital. "There was three people in the residence at the time of the fire," said assistant state fire marshal, Jason Baltic, "Two were able to escape. A male suspect did not make it out of the house." The fire broke out on Coal River Road just before six Sunday morning. An 18-year-old boy died in the fire. His teenage girlfriend was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation and the boy's father was able to escape safely. "We've got different information," said Baltic, "[the boy] possibly might have went back in to save some animals." Those animals also died in the fire. Investigators say they believe the fire may have been started by a cigarette and say one critical piece of safety equipment was missing from the house. "As far as I know, there was no smoke detectors in the home." It's a scene in Boone County that's a grim reminder of not only the importance of smoke detectors, but also how quickly a fire can turn deadly. "If you don't have smoke detectors, put smoke detectors in your home. If there's not batteries in them, put batteries in them. If there is a fire, get out of the house. Get out of the trailer. Get out of whatever you're in. Get outside and stay out. Don't go back in for anything." The name of that teenager and the official cause of the fire have yet to be released. We have new details on a fire that left one man dead and another injured. The fire happened on Coal River Road in Orgas shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday.
