A West Virginia lawmaker is ramping up efforts to lure a major manufacturer.
House Speaker Rick Thompson, D-Wayne, has joined the effort to woo Beretta USA.
The company says it may consider leaving its Maryland location if proposed stricter gun laws there are made law.
Thompson wrote a letter to the firearm manufacturer extolling the benefits of West Virginia's available space, workforce and commitment to the Second Amendment and gun ownership.
Beretta's Maryland plant employs about 300 workers. The company is the supplier of the primary sidearm used by the U.S. military.
