U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin hit the books with some preschoolers in Charleston Friday.
The event was part of "Read Across America Day." Manchin toured Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary School and read to the children, then met with teachers and discussed the importance of reading. Manchin said the earlier you begin to read, the better.
"It's something that never leaves us, and it's something special and it's traditional and it's generational," Manchin said. "And I think it's just something that's valuable for us anywhere in the world but especially here in America."
Manchin was expected to meet with small business owners in Huntington Friday afternoon to discuss the economic climate.
