West Virginians are still falling behind when it comes to good health.
The latest Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index poll ranks West Virginia in last place for the fourth year in a row. This poll measures variables like life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health and healthy behaviors.
West Virginians were most likely to be diagnosed with depression and the mountain state also leads the nation in obesity.
“We basically only have chain restaurants here, we don't have a lot of home owned places with home-made food,” said Shawna Harless, of Charleston. “Most everything is processed, so that's not very healthy.”
"I think if people would work, it would help out the physical behavior, and as far as depression, what other problems to have,” said Rick Bennett, of Charleston. “I think it would help out a lot.”
On the opposite side of the spectrum, Hawaii ranked number one in the well-being index for a fourth year in a row.
