Pinch , Kanawha County , West Virginia

Kanawha County sheriff's deputies said they continue to investigate the home invasion in which a 74-year-old woman was seriously injured and are exploring possible links to similar incidents in the area.

Deputies are evaluating evidence and interviewing neighbors and those with possible information regarding the home invasion robbery that occurred Thursday on Miller Drive in Pinch, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators believe it is possible the victim, who remains in serious but stable condition, opened a door through which the suspects entered the residence. They also believe more than one person committed the crime.

An elderly woman is in the hospital with very serious injuries and another man is recovering after fighting off several men from entering his home.

Kanawha County deputies say a 74-year-old woman was found unresponsive in her home on Church Road in Pinch, Thursday afternoon.

Eyewitness News has uncovered details that suggest this woman may not be the only target of these violent criminals.

"Always in the back of my mind, now I'm going to think, 'okay where are they? Are they coming back?'" says Frank Mace. He's bruised and shaken up but ready to tell his story exclusively to Eyewitness News. He's still reliving the nightmare that unfolded in his home on Mace Street in Pinch early Thursday morning.

"I remember thinking, f they get in my house. I won't be here tomorrow to tell this story," he says.

Mace says around 12:30 a.m., two men wearing baggy clothes and bandanas covering their faces tried to kick his door down. They busted out his windows with a crow bar, and even vandalized his car, but they weren't able to get inside. Mace struggled to keep the two men out, and at one point, the door flung back and gashed his head open, causing him to get nine stitches.

"Knowing that I have grandchildren that I want to see raised was helping me keep the adrenaline going so that I could do what I was able to do, because two strong young men trying to get in my house. I thought 'that's not going to happen,'" he says.

Now, news that an elderly woman was found beaten and unresponsive in her home just two streets over, has Mace thinking it was the same people who attacked him.

Kanawha County deputies say the victim's daughter hadn't been able to make contact with her all day and went to check on her around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Inside, the home was ransacked, and the elderly woman was near death.

"I live and have lived on the same street my entire life never thinking that anything like this could ever happen to me," says Mace.

Now deputies are left piecing together two crime scenes, as an entire community is fearful they could strike again.

The elderly woman is in serious but stable condition. Her name is not being released at this time. Deputies are still working to see if the two crimes are connected.

Authorities said the 74-year-old woman was found unresponsive by her daughter around 3 p.m. Thursday.

Paramedics were called to the home, and they determined it to be a crime scene.

The woman was taken to CAMC General where she is listed in serious condition.

Authorities said a woman was seriously injured in a home invasion in Pinch.

The incident happened Thursday on Miller Road. The victim was taken to an area hospital.

Authorities said the suspect is still being sought.
