Sheriff's deputies arrest a Mason County teacher for alleged abuse at school.
Point Pleasant High School teacher James Jones is facing felony child abuse and misdemeanor battery charge.
The alleged incident happened February 15 at the school. The criminal complaint alleges Jones, a teacher at the school, and a juvenile student got into a fight where wrestling and choking were involved. It also says the students face turned red and his airway was cut off. The complaint states students asked Jones to stop. The student involved was not seriously hurt.
Sheriff's deputies report Jones admitted to hitting the kid but not on purpose. He is currently out on bond.
Superintendent Suzanne Dickens said confidentially requirements prevent her from commenting on employee misconduct. She did say in a statement to Eyewitness News that "anytime the district is confronted with allegations relating to the safety and welfare of students the allegations are taken seriously., thoroughly investigated and that measures are taken to ensure that students are safe and not exposed to any continuing risk of harm."
