Residents in Athens, Ohio, may notice a shortage in water service after a major water transmission line break.
Crews have since repaired a break to a major water line and smaller distribution lines that happened Monday, according to the city of Athens. The city had to drain the city reservoir at Highland Park. The reservoir serves much of Athens west of U.S. 33 and east of SR 682. The overall function of the water system relies on the reservoir.
Residents are being asked to avoid unnecessary use of water at this time. A boil water order is in effect for residents on Pine Street, Fremont Avenue, West Carpenter Street, First Street and Walker Street.
The system will be monitored for future breaks.
