What is one man's trash is another man's treasure, but the Mayor of Huntington is weighing in and wants to crackdown on trash around peoples homes.

Mayor Steve Williams has proposed a crackdown on the city code regarding trash on people's property. In an effort to make the city more attractive, the mayor said he wants to include a clause in his budget proposal, stating that indoor furniture belongs inside, not outside - to prevent couches and chairs on citizens' front porches and lawns.

Reaction to the plan is mixed.

Steve Jarrell, father of two, thinks it's a great idea.

"I think it's a good idea," Jarrell said. "The trash is uncalled for it's not the stuff we should be seeing in certain neighborhoods."

Taylor Perkins is a Marshall University student who says he keeps his house clean, but wants to be able to sit in whatever kind of chair he wants on his front porch.

"I think it's stupid," Perkins said. "Who are they to tell us what we can and cant have on our lawn and porch."

The mayor says the 'crackdown' would not create a financial burden on the city, as revenue from the fines would cover the jobs to enforce the new rules.

The first reading of the proposal is scheduled for Monday at the Huntington City Council meeting.
