A tax deputy resigned her position after an investigation into missing money at the Fayette County Sheriff's Tax Office and now faces several charges.
Warrants have been filed charging Patricia Ann Walker, 52, of Oak Hill with embezzlement and falsifying accounts, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.
The sheriff's office said an internal audit Tuesday discovered about $150 missing from Walker's cash drawer. Walker resigned her position hours after the investigation was initiated, the release said.
"Although the amount of money stolen in this incident was relatively small, any level of theft is inappropriate and will not be tolerated," Sheriff Steve Kessler said. "We take our duty to guard the public's funds entrusted to the Tax Office very seriously."
