Two health departments in the region have received grants to help improve heart health for the residents they serve.
West Virginia Health Right in Charleston and the Ashland-Boyd County Health Department in Ashland, Ky., have received grants from the AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation's "Connection for Cardiovascular HealthSM" program, according to news releases from AstraZeneca.
Health Right was given $185,025 to support the Pathways to Cardiovascular Health Initiative. The program works to help people who are at risk for cardiovascular disease through lifestyle changes and medical treatment.
The Ashland-Boyd Health Department received $210,000 for its "Appalachian Partnership for Positive Living and Eating" (APPLE) program. The program helps families improve the health of their children. Students who are overweight are invited to join the program.
The Connection for Cardiovascular HealthSM program has awarded more than $4.4 million in grants this year to 22 organizations that are doing innovative work in promoting cardiovascular health.
