Mine safety was discussed at the state Capitol on Tuesday.
During a presentation hosted by the House of Delegates, coal industry leaders discussed the recruitment of qualified mine inspectors and made recommendations to the Legislature on ways to attract and keep them in the mountain state.
Workers with the Board of Coal Mine Health and Safety also reported on the safety of traveling and working within certain areas of the mine and the installation of methane detection shutoff devices on machines.
"It's responsible for us to go and report it back to the people who sent us the duties who are elected by their constituents and let them know that we are fully aware of the accountability that the Legislature has placed on us and we are responding to them in that way," said Joel Watts, administrator for the Board of Coal Mine Health and Safety.
